Reflexology at Airlie Complementary Clinic.

Reflexology is a gentle form of natural healing that involves treatment by massage to the reflex areas of the feet and hands. The reflexes correspond to all the various parts of the body and, therefore, the method offers a means to treat the whole body. Reflexology in the form I use it is a holistic treatment, in that I integrate Western and Eastern traditions.
By this I mean that I combine the centuries-old knowledge of Chinese meridian theory (as used in Acupuncture and Acupressure), with more orthodox Reflexology as developed in the west since the 1930s.
The meridians are invisible lines of a type of energy known in the east as chi or ki, which nurture and hold our entire being. Blockages in these pathways can lead to physical, mental or emotional problems. By massaging the feet or hands in a certain way the blockages are cleared, leading to good health. In this way illness can also be prevented from happening, as the treatment also helps to boost the immune system. So, you don't have to be ill to benefit from Reflexology! Treating the whole person, in body mind and spirit, is the best way to restore health and vitality.

What happens during a treatment?

Before the first session begins I will ask you a few questions about your medical history, your present state of health, and whether or not you are consulting your doctor. Usually you should wear loose comfortable clothing. Women should wear leggings or trousers (not tights) so that bare feet are readily accessible. Don't worry if you are coming straight from work and your feet are hot! I have lotions and powders to cool them down. During the sessions quietness and privacy, with no interruptions, are assured. You can have relaxing music, and I can scent the room with aromatherapy oils to soothe away your worries. Once you are comfortable, treatment will begin. Over the course of the session your feet will be treated by my fingers and thumbs gently pressing on the reflex points. The number of treatments needed varies from person to person. Generally speaking, the longer you've had something wrong, the longer it takes to get over it! However you should feel relaxed and more comfortable after each treatment. In fact some people come to see me just for the relaxation alone - it's worth it to re-experience the deep feeling of well-being following a session.
