Sally Brown. Remedial and Sport Massage. DRSM, SMTO.
About
Massage.
It has long been established that touch is essential for life and the
practised techniques of massage provide an unequalled medium for the
communication of touch.
The disciplines of Swedish, Remedial and Clinical Sports Massage utilise
direct manipulation of the soft tissues of the body (namely the muscles,
tendons, ligaments and their surrounding fascia) to relieve muscle spasm
and bring about therapeutic effects.
Massage greatly improves the circulation of nutrient-rich, oxygenated
blood around the body and hastens the removal of toxins and waste products
from the body by improving lymphatic drainage. In this way, massage
can have considerable effects on all the organs and tissues of the body.
An important aspect of massage that must never be overlooked is its
great capacity to reduce stress and anxiety and to reduce both physical
and mental pain by the stimulation of the body's natural endorphines.
